The Atlanta Opera hires new development officers

ATLANTA, GA—  The Atlanta Opera announced today that it has added two new development officers to its staff: chief advancement officer Paul Harkins and individual giving officer Jonathan Blalock.

Paul Harkins comes to the company from The University of Michigan, where he worked for 13 years and served for the last two years as chief development and external relations officer for the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, overseeing fundraising, communications and alumni relations activities. At The Atlanta Opera, Harkins will supervise both the development and marketing teams, creating a cohesive message and voice for the company across all materials they generate, as well as overseeing all efforts aimed at generating earned and contributed revenue. In addition, Harkins is also a professional percussionist who has held a tenured position with the Flint Symphony Orchestra for 25 years.

Jonathan Blalock joins The Atlanta Opera from Opera Saratoga, where he served as development and patron services manager. In his new role with TAO, he will focus on high-level individual donors and gifts. Blalock is a published author and also a working tenor. He has sung with major opera companies across the country, including the role of the Podestà in The Atlanta Opera’s 2017 production of Mozart’s The Secret Gardener at The Atlanta Botanical Garden. ■
