On Tuesday evening, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra announced that, in collaboration local television station 11Alive (NBC) and PNC Bank, two special televised programs will be broadcast this holiday season.

Yes, you read that correctly: televised.

“The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Plays On” is a one-hour television special that chronicles the orchestra’s perseverance and adaptability following the cancellation of more than 60 concerts due to the COVID-19 crisis. ASO musicians and administrative leaders tell the story of how the orchestra creatively redefined community and performance during this time. The show will have its premiere airing Saturday, December 12, 7pm on 11Alive/NBC (WXIA-TV), and repeat broadcasts on December 13 at 11am on WXIA-TV and at 8pm on WATL-TV.

A second television special, “Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Holiday Celebration,” will feature classical holiday favorites and familiar carols, plus warm holiday greetings from friends of the ASO. The program will premiere Saturday, December 19, 7pm on 11Alive/NBC (WXIA_TV), with repeat broadcasts on December 20, at 11am on WXIA-TV and 8pm on WATL-TV.

Both programs will also stream online at during the above air dates.

Announced late last month, the following pair of Virtual Holiday Concerts, part of the ASO’s Behind the Curtain Series will also be streamed this December on the orchestra’s own virtual stage, available for pay-per-view access at $20 per concert:
