➤ GSO and Girls Who Conduct launch Women Conductor Fellowship Program

Marietta, GA— The Georgia Symphony Orchestra is partnering with the organization Girls Who Conduct to launch a new fellowship program for women conductors.

Up to six fellows will be selected to participate in the program, which will take place throughout the GSO’s full 2021-22 orchestra season. Participants will observe GSO rehearsals, participate in conducting workshops, receive mentorship by GWC members and GSO’s music staff, and engage with GSO education and outreach programs.

➤ Michael Reese’s “Theories of the Lowest End” has been named the official artwork of the 2021 Atlanta Jazz Festival

Atlanta, GA— The 43rd Atlanta Jazz Festival, regarded as one of the country’s largest free jazz festivals, is back after a year-long hiatus following the pandemic. The Festival, which has a new date for 2021 over Labor Day Weekend, has announced the art piece “Theories of the Lowest End” by local Atlanta photographer and conceptual artist Michael Reese as the official artwork of this year’s Festival. The conceptual art piece, which is a 35mm Color Film with Digital Painting Overlay, features a lone jazz artist playing his stand-up double bass looking out from the stage onto the audience draped in a purple, pink and blue dusk sky.

Reese’s “Theories of the Lowest End” will be featured on posters, notecards and blankets for this year’s Atlanta Jazz Festival. A 50” x60” throw blanket featuring the artwork is currently available online at the Festival’s new online store, along with hats, T-shirts, tote bags and aprons with the Atlanta Jazz Festival logo. Merchandise will also be available for purchase in person on festival grounds at Piedmont Park on Sunday, September 5, and Monday, September 6.

Atlanta, GA— The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has finalized and announced its plans for six Holiday programs performed in 11 concerts for 2021, starting the day after Thanksgiving and ending on the Saturday before Christmas week. here’s the chronological thumbnail of the schedule:
