LINCOLN, NE— Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra (LSO) has announced its 2024-2025 concert season, featuring a variety of performances that highlight time, place, heritage, and the seasons. Under the direction of music director Edward Polochick, the orchestra will present several premieres, classic works, and pieces exploring a range of emotions from love and loss to joy and celebration.
The upcoming season includes seven classical concerts, two family concerts, one holiday concert, and one pops concert. Polochick emphasized the diversity and quality of the programming, noting the blend of esteemed standard repertoire with new compositions and collaborations with emerging artists and composers.
The classical series includes several noteworthy performances. The season opens with “Passion & Percussion” on September 13, featuring percussionist Britton-René Collins in Gabriella Ortiz’s Concierto Candela and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique). “Home Again,” set for September 27 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, will showcase David von Kampen’s song cycle Under the Silver and Home Again with baritone Nathaniel Sullivan, alongside works by Ravel, Mozart, and Mendelssohn. “Melodies from Spain” on October 26 will feature music by Manuel de Falla, Óscar Navarro, Bizet, and Rimsky-Korsakov. On November 24, LSO Concertmaster Anton Miller will perform Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D Minor in a program entitled “Love, Loss & Eternity,” followed by pieces from Wagner and Strauss.
The classical series continues with “French Impressions” on January 25, including works by Lili Boulanger, Ravel, Cécile Chaminade, and Debussy. On April 25, the world premiere of Tightrope by LSO composer-in-residence Elena Ruehr will be followed by Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring pianist Simone Dinnerstein, and Beethoven’s Egmont Overture performed side-by-side with the Lincoln Youth Symphony. The season concludes on May 9 with “Light & Renewal,” featuring guitarist JIJI in Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez and Brahms’ Symphony No. 4.
