DALLAS, Texas— The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has named Jeff Tyzik principal pops conductor emeritus, a title that will take effect with the 2026–27 season, the orchestra announced Dec. 9.

Tyzik, who served as the orchestra’s principal pops conductor for 13 years, will continue to lead select programs in the emeritus role, with a focus on orchestral concerts that blend genres and highlight the orchestra’s role in popular music.

He first appeared with the Dallas Symphony in 2005, conducting a program with the Mambo Kings. In 2013, he was appointed principal pops conductor and went on to lead concerts on the orchestra’s Pops Series, presented by Capital One, as well as appearances at the Bravo!Vail Festival in Colorado. His programs have ranged widely in style, drawing on Motown, country music, the Harlem Renaissance, and popular music of the 1980s.

Tyzik is scheduled to return to Dallas in April 2026 for a program marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, featuring the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Clubs and Pipe and Drum Corps. In June 2026, he will conduct Icons of the Strip, a concert centered on the music of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack. Additional programs for the 2026–27 season are expected to be announced in February 2026.

Michelle Miller Burns, president and chief executive officer of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, said Tyzik’s work with the ensemble has been defined by his enthusiasm and stylistic breadth, adding that the orchestra looks forward to continuing its collaboration with him.

A Grammy Award winner, Tyzik is also principal pops conductor of the Oregon Symphony and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has held the post for more than three decades. He has appeared as a guest conductor with more than 100 orchestras in the United States and abroad, including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Pops, and Cleveland Orchestra. In addition to his conducting career, Tyzik is an active composer and arranger, with more than 400 works written for orchestra.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, led by music director Fabio Luisi, presents more than 100 concerts annually at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and maintains an extensive schedule of educational and community programs across North Texas.
