ATLANTA, Georgia— The Atlanta Opera Film Studio has released three new cinematic opera films based on its stage productions of Richard Wagner’s ‘Ring Cycle’, the company announced December 18.
The films, adapted from performances of Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, and Siegfried, are available exclusively on The Atlanta Opera Film Studio’s streaming platform. The releases transform the live productions into feature-length films intended for digital viewing.
Access to the platform is available through an annual membership at $25 or a monthly subscription at $7. Subscribers receive access to newly released films as well as archived content, including complete operas, documentaries, short-form works, curated arias, and podcasts.
The films were produced by Tomer Zvulun, the Atlanta Opera’s general and artistic director, and Felipe Barral, director of the Atlanta Opera Film Studio. Zvulun also directed the stage productions, with designs by Erhard Rom (scenic and projection), Mattie Ullrich (costumes), Robert Wierzel (lighting), and Ran Arthur Braun (live action). Conductors Arthur Fagen and Roberto Kalb led the performances.
The cast across the three operas includes Greer Grimsley, Christine Goerke, Stefan Vinke, Lise Lindstrom, Alexander Kopeczi, Viktor Antipenko, Zachary Nelson, Rodell Rosel, Julius Ahn, Raymond Aceto, Gretchen Krupp, Laura Wilde, Lindsay Ammann, Richard Cox, Ronnita Miller, and Elizabeth DeShong, among others.
The Atlanta Opera is continuing its presentation of Wagner’s four-opera cycle, with Götterdämmerung (“Twilight of the Gods”) scheduled to be performed live May 30 through June 7, 2026, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. The production will also be livestreamed on June 2 and later released as a cinematic opera film.
In addition to filmed operas, the Atlanta Opera Film Studio streams each of the company’s mainstage productions during the season. Livestreams are available for replay on the platform for a limited time, while full-length cinematic opera films are restricted to paid members. Some content is offered free to registered users.
Founded in 1979, the Atlanta Opera operates at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center and was designated a Tier One company by Opera America in 2024. The organization launched the Atlanta Opera Film Studio during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide digital access to performances and has since expanded its film and streaming offerings.
