MACON, Georgia— Mercer University’s Fabian Concert Series will appear at Spivey Hall in Morrow for the first time this spring, expanding the chamber music series beyond its longtime home in Macon.

The series, presented by Mercer’s Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, is scheduled for two concerts at Spivey Hall: March 11 and April 22, both at 7:30 p.m. The performances mark the first time the Fabian Concert Series has been presented outside Macon.

The concerts are curated by violinist Amy Schwartz Moretti, artistic director of the McDuffie Center, and feature established international performers alongside students from the Center’s selective string program.

The March 11 program will include performances by the Ehnes Quartet and pianist Orion Weiss. Repertoire is to include a work by Ludwig van Beethoven, selections inspired by the tangos of Astor Piazzolla, and Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34. Performers are scheduled to include James Ehnes and Schwartz Moretti on violin, Che-Yen Chen on viola, Edward Arron on cello, and McDuffie Center students.

The April 22 concert will open with Beethoven’s Piano Trio No. 7 in B-flat major, Op. 97, known as the “Archduke” Trio, performed by Schwartz Moretti, cellist Raman Ramakrishnan, and pianist Benjamin Hochman. The program will conclude with César Franck’s Piano Quintet, performed with McDuffie Center students.

Tickets for both concerts are available through the Spivey Hall box office. Additional information is available at spiveyhall.org.

The Fabian Concert Series is part of Mercer University’s Townsend School of Music and the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, a specialized institute focused on preparing string players for professional careers while they pursue academic studies at the university.

Mercer University, founded in 1833, enrolls about 9,000 students across multiple campuses in Georgia and offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.
