‘Twas the week before Christmas when The Atlanta Opera launched its new Spotlight Media virtual platform.
The project was first publicly announced in the latter oart of November with an intended online date December 15 was pushed back only few days, but still in time for pre-Christmas gift subscriptions.
Spotlight Media has made its debut with three initial video offerings:
- Viktor Ullman’s dystopian opera,The Kaiser of Atlantis, starring Michael Mayes, Kevin Burdette Alek Shrader, Calvin Griffin, Daniela Mack, Jasmine Habersham and Brian Vu
- the Mezzo Extravaganza recital featuring Jamie Barton, Danielle Mack, Megan Marino and Gabrielle Beteag;
- bass Morris Robinson in the initial episode of Love Letters to Atlanta, a series of short videos each featuring an artist from the Atlanta Opera Company Players, a song significant to them, and a meaningfully iconic Atanta location.
In tune with best streaming practices, more content will be released by rthe company in stages rather than all at once.
Both Kaiser and the Mezzo program were filmed at the company’s “Big Tent” on the campus of Oglethorpe University during its fall series off live limited-audience performances. Robinson’s Love Letter performance of “The Impossible Dream” was filmed at the Fox Theater.
