Atlanta Chamber Players announce finalists for Rapido! Composition Contest

Atlanta, GA—  Today, the Atlanta Chamber Players announced the five finalists for Cycle Seven of the Rapido!® 14-Day National Composition Contest, marking a significant milestone in promoting new chamber ensemble works. Founded in 2009 by the Atlanta Chamber Players and the Antinori Foundation, Rapido! challenges composers to create new compositions within a tight 14-day timeframe.

From February 2 to February 16, 14 semi-finalists embarked on the rigorous task of composing new pieces for a piano quartet (piano, violin, viola, and cello). Following a thorough review process, five standout composers emerged as finalists.

The selected finalists are Benedikt Brydern from Santa Monica, CA; Dan Coleman from Tucson, AZ; Alice Hong from Atlanta, GA; Ben Morris from Nacogdoches, TX; and Nicky Sohn from Houston, TX.

Their compositions will take center stage at the National Finals concert scheduled for Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 3 pm at the High Museum of Art’s 220-seat Hill Auditorium. Tickets for the event are currently available for purchase on atlantachamberplayers.com.

In addition to receiving a cash prize, the Grand Prize winner will have the opportunity to expand their short composition into a full-length piece for performance by The Atlanta Chamber Players during the 2024-2025 season. Furthermore, the winner will receive a prestigious two-week residency at the picturesque Hambidge Center for Creative Arts in north Georgia.

The Rapido!® 14-Day National Composition Contest stands as a testament to the Atlanta Chamber Players and the Antinori Foundation’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation in chamber music. Supported in part by the Antinori Foundation, A Mad Idea Foundation, and anonymous donors, Rapido! has been instrumental in the creation of over 1,200 new chamber works through six competition cycles.
