ATLANTA, Georgia— The Atlanta Opera and Alliance Theatre production of Fiddler on the Roof received 12 nominations Wednesday for the 2026 Suzi Bass Awards, including recognition for outstanding production of a musical.
The nominations, which span 11 categories, include direction, music direction, choreography, acting and five design categories. Tomer Zvulun, The Atlanta Opera’s general and artistic director, was nominated for outstanding direction of a musical.
Other nominees from the production are Or Matias for music direction; Chloe Treat for choreography; Itzik Cohen, for outstanding principal performer in a musical for his portrayal of Tevye; and Mia Pinero and Oliver Prose, for outstanding featured performer in a musical for their roles as Hodel and Perchik, respectively.
The production also received nominations for costume design for a musical, Vita Tzykun; lighting design, Thomas C. Hase; projection design, Nicholas Hussong; scenic design, Alexander Lisiyansky; and sound design, Dan Moses Schreier.
The musical, presented at the Alliance Theatre from Sept. 4 through Oct. 12, 2025, was a co-production of the Atlanta Opera and Alliance Theatre. The run was extended because of audience demand.
More than 25,000 people attended the production’s 44 performances, according to the Atlanta Opera, making it the most-attended production in the history of both organizations.
The collaboration brought together artists and creative personnel from opera and theater to stage Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick’s musical, based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem. The production combined the resources of the two Atlanta institutions while marking an expansion of the Atlanta Opera’s work beyond conventional operatic repertoire.
Fiddler on the Roof is among several recent Atlanta Opera projects that have involved partnerships with organizations outside the opera field. Under Zvulun, the company has collaborated with institutions including Theatrical Outfit, the Atlanta History Center, Georgia Tech and others.
The Suzi Bass Awards, which recognize professional theater in the Atlanta area, consider performances, direction, design and production. More than 40 judges evaluated more than 70 productions during the 2025-26 season, according to the awards organization.
The winners will be announced Nov. 16 at the Conant Performing Arts Center at Oglethorpe University.■
