Top 20 stories for first half of 2021

Mark Gresham | 2 AUG 2021

I’m writing from Buford, Georgia on Friday afternoon, in order for this article to post automatically on Monday morning. This is because my brother and I are headed for Highlands, North Carolina for two concerts at the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival. One is in Cashiers on Saturday evening and the other on Sunday evening in Highlands.

It’s a matter of logistics during travel, where I will not have much ongoing access to internet. Most likely I will still be asleep when it goes live at 6am Monday. I will head back to Atlanta later that morning.

There are of course the artificial intelligence bots that visit the EarRelevant website early, but you might be surprised that a number of real people read it before 9am ET as well. Normally the links for our 6am posts wind up on social media between 7am and 9am. Sometimes, however, that is taken care of later. After all, not every story posts at 6am. Readership is well spread throughout the day but there are spikes in views that do not follow well-worn patterns. For me as a publisher, it’s a learning experience every day.

Part of that experience is watching the flow, much like sitting by a river and watching its changes, as well as that of the weather. The flow of numbers is interesting, if that’s one of your things.

Most of that is in-house business data, not for public consumption. But I would like to share one thing with you here: Our “top 20” stories from January through June, the first six months of 2021. I’ll just give you the list of the headlines with links to our “most read” posts in descending order. Have a look:
