Dallas, TX— The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) has unveiled its highly anticipated lineup for the 2024/25 concert season, featuring a rich blend of beloved classics and innovative contemporary selections. This season marks the fifth year of Fabio Luisi‘s tenure as music director, promising an exciting continuation of the artistic journey he has led with the orchestra.
Under Luisi’s direction, the orchestra will deliver ten captivating performances as part of the 18-concert Texas Instruments Classical Series, which will showcase a repertoire that combines timeless masterpieces with daring modern compositions, as well as the one-night DSO Gala.
Renowned guest artists and conductors will grace the stage throughout the season, including Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Augustin Hadelich, and Jamie Barton, among others. The lineup also features the return of former DSO music director Jaap van Zweden, who will lead the orchestra in a performance of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5.
In addition to showcasing established talent, the season will introduce audiences to emerging artists and composers, with the inclusion of several world premieres and DSO debuts. Among the highlights are performances of newly commissioned works by composers Raven Chacon, Sophia Jani, and Sean Shepherd.
Notably, the DSO is set to make history as the first American orchestra in recent memory to present Richard Wagner’s complete Der Ring des Nibelung in concert, a monumental achievement in classical music. One of the orchestra’s most ambitious undertakings, this epic Ring Cycle marks the culmination of years of planning and preparation. With stage direction by Alberto Triola, this groundbreaking endeavor will feature over 100 musicians and a cast of more than 30 vocalists on the stage of the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.
Beyond the classical repertoire, the DSO’s Pops Series presented by Capital One promises a diverse array of musical experiences, ranging from Broadway favorites to Latin music extravaganzas. Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik will lead the orchestra in dynamic performances that celebrate the enduring appeal of genres like Motown and Latin music.
Other highlights of the season include special presentations by newly appointed principal conductor Enrico Lopez-Yañez, who will curate a series of pops concerts featuring themes such as disco and movies-in-concert.
The DSO has also announced the appointment of Shira Samuels-Shragg as its new assistant conductor beginning with the new season. Samuels-Shragg is currently the assistant conductor of the Spokane Symphony and finishing her second season in the same role with the Plano Symphony in Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
The 2024/25 season of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra promises to captivate audiences with its blend of tradition and innovation, reaffirming the orchestra’s position as a cultural cornerstone of the Dallas arts scene. ■
