New music series to launch this fall in Milton, Georgia

MILTON, Georgia— A new nonprofit organization called Music Milton has been launched this month with plans to bring professional music performances and educational programs to the Milton community beginning this fall.

Located 45 minutes north of Midtown Atlanta, Milton, Georgia, is known for its rolling landscapes, equestrian farms, and a blend of rural charm with upscale residential living. Incorporated in 2006, Milton offers a quieter, more spacious alternative to the bustle of the metro area, with a strong emphasis on community, green space, and quality of life.

The city features scenic roads lined with hardwoods and pastureland, a growing number of locally owned shops and restaurants, and highly rated public schools. Its blend of small-town atmosphere and proximity to urban amenities has made it one of the most sought-after places to live in North Fulton County.

Founded by Ronald Gilbert, a retired GE executive and former planning commissioner for the City of Milton, Music Milton aims to present concerts across a range of genres while fostering community engagement through music education initiatives. The organization was officially incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit after four years of development.

The inaugural season will focus on classical music and is scheduled to begin in November. Three concerts have been announced, all taking place Saturday evenings at local churches.

William Ransom, a pianist and professor at Emory University, has been named artistic director. Ransom is also known for his leadership of the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta and music festivals in Highlands–Cashiers, North Carolina, and Amelia Island, Florida. He received the 2024 Community Impact/Presenter of the Year award from Chamber Music America.

“Season One is devoted to classical offerings, and we are already preparing for a second season that will incorporate jazz and bluegrass,” Ransom said. In addition to concerts, the organization plans to offer music education programs for local students, including school partnerships and masterclasses led by professional musicians.

The first concert, scheduled for November 1 at Birmingham United Methodist Church, will feature “The Eight Seasons,” a pairing of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, performed by the Vega String Quartet and pianist Elizabeth Pridgen.

On December 6, Music Milton will present a family concert titled “Santa’s Favorite Chamber Music” at St. Aidan’s Church, including a holiday sing-along with pianists Julie Coucheron and Ransom, with an appearance by Santa Claus.

The season will conclude on February 7, 2026 with “Beethoven’s 5th,” a program of Beethoven’s chamber music performed by violinist David Coucheron, cellist Charae Krueger, and pianists Julie Coucheron and Ransom, also at Birmingham United Methodist Church.
