DALLAS, Texas— Early giving opened on Thursday for North Texas Giving Day, the annual online fundraising drive billed as the nation’s largest community-wide giving event.

The effort, organized by Communities Foundation of Texas, runs through September 18 and allows donors to contribute to nearly 3,600 participating nonprofits across 20 counties. Donations can be made at northtexasgivingday.org.

Organizers said this year marks the highest number of participating nonprofits in the event’s 17-year history. Last year, North Texans donated nearly $70 million to support organizations in various fields, including education, healthcare, social services, the arts, environmental causes, and animal welfare. Among them were North Texas’ music institutions — including orchestras, jazz ensembles, and community arts groups — that rely on Giving Day contributions to sustain programming and outreach. Since its launch in 2009, the campaign has generated more than $500 million for local nonprofits.

“Thousands of nonprofits count on this day to further their missions,” said Wayne White, president and CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas. “The need is great, and the time is now to support our community’s nonprofits.”

The initiative has become a hallmark of philanthropy in the region, pairing online giving with in-person community events that build momentum in the weeks leading up to the official Giving Day. Free celebrations are scheduled across North Texas through September 18, part of what organizers call a region-wide “season of generosity.”

Amazon is returning for its fifth year as presenting sponsor. “North Texas Giving Day empowers every person to support causes they care about,” said Vickie Yakunin, the company’s head of community affairs in Texas. Other major sponsors include Charles Schwab Bank, Hunt Cares, the Sid W. Richardson Foundation, Lyda Hill Philanthropies, The Meadows Foundation, and The Rees-Jones Foundation.

Organizers stated that all donations made through the website are tax-deductible and that transaction and technology fees are covered by sponsors and other supporters, ensuring that 100% of every gift goes directly to the designated nonprofit. Contributions can be made via credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, or Venmo.

For new participants, the website includes a quiz to help donors connect with organizations that align with their interests.

Communities Foundation of Texas, founded in 1953, manages more than 1,300 charitable funds and has awarded more than $2.9 billion in grants. Organizers say North Texas Giving Day has become one of its most visible initiatives, designed to make philanthropy accessible to anyone in the community.

“This day is about collective impact,” White said. “When thousands of people come together to give, no matter the amount, it creates lasting change across North Texas.”
