ATLANTA, GA— In response to concerns about a spike in COVID cases related to the omicron variant, The Atlanta Opera announced today that it has created a livestream option for audience members who hold tickets for one of their upcoming productions of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, which opens this Saturday, January 22 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, with additional performances January 25, 28 and 30.
At the same time, The Atlanta Opera has adjusted its policy around the negative COVID testing option to make compliance easier.
All audience members must show proof of vaccination or a negative test taken within 48 hours of arriving at Cobb Energy Centre. This applies to all audience members who are eligible for vaccinations at the time of the performance. This information will be checked before individuals can enter the venue.
The company had previously communicated to ticketholders that negative COVID tests needed to be completed within 24 hours of arriving at the theatre.
Masks are still required while inside the Cobb Energy Centre.
The livestream option will allow ticket buyers who are not comfortable coming to Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center for the live production to gather in the comfort of their own home to enjoy the show. About a day before the performance, all ticket account owners – the individual who purchased the tickets, no matter how many were purchased – will receive a link to access the livestream for that evening’s performance.
The livestream link will only be valid for a single viewing during the live performance.
A recorded and fully-produced version of The Pirates of Penzance will be released on The Atlanta Opera’s Spotlight Media streaming platform later in 2022. ■
