Georgia Symphony Orchestra unveils eclectic, inclusive 2023/24 season | EarRelevant

Based in Marietta, Georgia, northwest of Atlanta, the Georgia Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2023/24 season schedule, featuring orchestral, choral, jazz, holiday, and sensory-friendly concerts, plus programs focused on music education for youth. Timothy Verville is the orchestra’s music director and conductor.

Three classical concerts frame the GSO’s new season. “An Early Grave,” on October 28, 2023, will comprise the beloved works of four late classical composers who met an early death: Georges Bizet, Charles Tomlinson Griffes, Felix Mendelssohn, and Lili Boulanger. On February 24, 2024, GSO principal clarinet Justin Stanley is the soloist in Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, paired with Symphony No. 2 of Johannes Brahms and Immerse by Quin Mason. The classical grand finale, “Beethoven’s Universe,” will take place on May 18, 2024, featuring Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 plus Eric Whitacre’s Deep Field performed live to the film Deep Field: The Impossible Magnitude of Our Universe.

A Marietta and Cobb County tradition, GSO’s Holiday Pops concert will take place on December 2, 2023, bringing holiday spirit to the Marietta Performing Arts Center with Christmas classics, new holiday favorites, and a sing-a-long.

The GSO will also present a Gospel Mass concert, date and venue to be determined later in the year.

GSO Jazz! will present its two concerts at the Strand Theatre on February 17 and April 13, 2024.

Georgia Symphony Orchestra will host its annual Sensory Friendly Concert Series programs at the Marietta Performing Arts Center on November 11, 2023, and April 27, 2024. The series is designed specifically for individuals with sensory sensitivities and their families. Concertgoers are encouraged to be themselves and move around, clap, dance, or vocalize during the 50-minute performance. A pre-concert ‘Instrument Petting Zoo’ and a Quiet Room will also be available.

The Georgia Symphony Youth Orchestra will present 12 performances featuring 13 student ensembles at the Bailey School of Music at Kennesaw State University.

For current subscribers, GSO season ticket sales began on May 25. New subscription sales will begin on June 19, and then individual tickets go on sale on July 24. More detailed information can be found online at georgiasymphony.org ■
