Athens, GA— The Hugh Hodgson School of Music (HHSOM) at the University of Georgia is offering a complete season of 26 ticketed live concerts and performances during the upcoming academic year. This return to a full calendar of events, following several years of pandemic adaptations, invites students and local audiences to experience a diverse offering of events, including ensembles like the UGA Symphony Orchestra, UGA Wind Ensemble, UGA Hodgson Singers, UGA Opera Theatre, and Faculty Artist concerts.
Featured composers range from the classical, such as Sergei Prokofiev, Anton Bruckner, and Pyotr Tchaikovsky, to the more contemporary, including George Gershwin, Ingolf Dahl, and John Williams; to living composers, such as Karen Khanagov, Julie Giroux, and recent UGA graduate Jackson Riffle. The UGA Opera Theatre will explore some familiar repertoire in unexpected ways. UGA faculty performances will include performances in piano, trombone, viola, double bass, and a new Faculty Jazz Ensemble.
Audiences can also expect the return of the HHSOM’s most popular concerts. The Annual Holiday Concert, an Athens tradition, will feature a collection of the program’s large and small ensembles covering traditional and new songs for the season. The year of performances will conclude with a combined concert featuring over 300 student musicians, including the UGA Symphony Orchestra, UGA Hodgson Singers, University Chorus, UGA Glee Clubs, and featured soloists.
