ATLANTA, Georgia— Atlanta-based filmmakers Chris Moser and David Hughes Duke have announced that their upcoming documentary, “The Scots-Irish – A Musical Journey,” has received significant grants from Scottish Heritage USA and the ACT Giving Program. The documentary, set to be a two-hour feature for public television in the U.S., U.K., and Ireland, aims to explore the impact of the Scots-Irish on Western democracy, interweaving narrative, and traditional music.
The support from Scottish Heritage USA highlights the project’s importance to the Scottish-American community, while the ACT Giving Program’s contribution underscores its educational value. Moser and Duke, who have previously worked on notable projects for Georgia Public Broadcasting, are now seeking additional funding to move into production.
“The Scots-Irish – A Musical Journey” will feature performances by a stellar ensemble of singers and musicians, with legendary folk singer John McCutcheon narrating. The film will delve into the history of the Scots-Irish, a group of predominantly Presbyterian immigrants from Northern Ireland, and their role in shaping democratic principles in America.
The filmmakers emphasize the cultural and historical significance of the project and are reaching out to potential contributors and sponsors to help fund the project. Donations are tax-deductible through The Film Collaborative, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. For more information or to contribute, visit the project’s website at scotsirish.us. ■
