Amethyst Baroque Announces 2024-25 Concert Season

MARIETTA, Georgia— The Amethyst Baroque Ensemble has unveiled its concert schedule for the 2024-25 season, marking its sixth year of performances. The ensemble (Alexandra Dunbar, harpsichord; Jody Miller, recorders; Marcy Jean Brenner, viola da gamba; and Adrin Akins, countertenor) will present three main concert programs featuring both obscure and celebrated works from the Baroque repertoire.

The season opener, entitled “Seldom Play’d,” is set for November 8 and 9, 2024. This concert will showcase lesser-known pieces alongside selections from prominent composers. Performances will take place at St. Stephen’s Anglican Catholic Church in Athens and St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta.

The second program, “Prepare the Way: An Advent Songfest,” will be held from December 20 to 22, 2024, at various locations in Atlanta and Athens. This event will focus on themes of hope, love, joy, and peace through a blend of music spanning eight centuries, encouraging audience participation.

Finally, the ensemble will return with “Concertare: Concertos & Cantatas” on March 7-9, 2025. This concert will feature guest musicians Guest musicians Jonathan DeLoach (recorder), Daniel McCarthy (viola d’amore), Ute Marks (violin), Dana Duncan-Davis (violin), Mia Mangano (cello), Kelly Stewart (harp) and Gregory Hamilton (theorbo), and will include Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto in F and Scarlatti’s cantata “E perche non sequito o pastorelle.”

In addition to the concert schedule, Amethyst Baroque has launched a redesigned website that facilitates ticket purchases and donations through PayPal, Venmo, and credit cards. The organization invites contributions of any size to support its programs, with various donor recognition levels.

Volunteers are also sought to assist with concert logistics, including greeting attendees and managing the ticket table.

Tickets for all Amethyst Baroque concerts are priced at $20 for general admission and $10 for discounted categories, with no one turned away for inability to pay.
