ATLANTA, Georgia— The Chopin Society of Atlanta marks its 25th anniversary with a celebration concert on May 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Spivey Hall, marking a quarter-century of dedication to preserving the legacy of composer Fryderyk Chopin and promoting classical music in the metro Atlanta community.
The concert, featuring Piotr and Eliza Folkert on piano, John Thomas Dodson conducting, and the Chopin Academy Chamber Orchestra, will include works by Chopin, Bach, Górecki, and others and is sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, D.C., reflecting the strong cultural ties between the United States and Poland. Student tickets are available free of charge with a valid school ID, underscoring the CSA’s commitment to making classical music accessible to the next generation.
Founded in 2000 by Polish-American musician and educator Dorota Lato to honor the legacy of composer Fryderyk Chopin, the organization has nurtured a deep appreciation for classical music in metro Atlanta through performances, educational programs, and collaborations with world-renowned artists. The Atlanta society is affiliated with the Frederic Chopin Society of Warsaw, Poland, and is committed to enriching the community through music education and performance.
Over the years, the CSA has organized numerous piano recitals featuring internationally acclaimed artists such as Sergei Babayan, Rafal Blechacz, and Joyce Yang. These performances have been held at various venues across metro Atlanta, including Spivey Hall, and have garnered enthusiastic praise from classical music lovers and critics alike.
In addition to public concerts, the society has fostered a deep appreciation for Chopin’s timeless compositions through educational programs and collaborations with renowned pianists from around the world. Notably, the CSA has funded scholarships for students to participate in international piano sessions in Paris, France, and Vienna, Austria, providing young musicians with invaluable opportunities to hone their craft.
A cornerstone of the CSA’s mission is its commitment to inspiring and engaging young people through the beauty of Chopin’s music. The society’s educational initiatives include organizing annual competitions about Chopin’s life, such as the “Chopin in Art” contest, which encourages students to explore and express their understanding of the composer’s legacy through visual arts. Furthermore, the CSA subsidizes concert tickets for music students and provides prizes for participants of popular after-concert essay contests, fostering a deeper connection between youth and classical music.
As the CSA celebrates this significant milestone, it remains steadfast in its mission to promote the understanding and appreciation of Chopin’s music while engaging and inspiring youth from the metro Atlanta area. With continued support from patrons, members, volunteers, and audiences, the society looks forward to another 25 years of delivering musical excellence and fostering a deep appreciation for classical music in the community.
