MORROW, Georgia— Spivey Hall at Clayton State University is preparing to take audiences on a whirlwind musical tour across five continents during its Global Music Festival, a three-day celebration of world traditions set for this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 19–21.
With seven ticketed performances spread across the festival’s run, the event promises a colorful lineup that blends music, dance, and cultural storytelling. Each day of the festival features two to three acts, spotlighting performers rooted in regions including South America, the Caribbean, Africa, India, China, Eastern Europe, and Ireland.
“The Global Music Festival is a consistent audience favorite, also enjoyed by the participating ensembles, musically immersed in the regions their performances represent,” said Melanie E. Darby, director of education and community engagement at Spivey Hall. “This year’s performances will take audiences on an aural safari from the plains of Africa to the peaks of the Andes.”
Kicking off on June 19, the festival opens with a focus on the African diaspora in the Americas. Apu Inka takes the stage at 10:30 am, followed by Manga African Dance at 12:30 pm. The celebration continues on June 20 with performances highlighting tropical traditions, including Kuchipudi dance from India and steel pan music by Latitude Adjustment Steel.
The final day, June 21, invites audiences to “Dance, Dance, Dance around the World!” with Atlanta Chinese Dance at 10:30 am, Georgia Polka Connection at 12:30 pm, and Ah, Surely! — an ensemble inspired by Irish music — at 2:30 pm.
Designed with all ages in mind, the festival includes interactive features such as musical instrument “petting zoos,” craft stations, picnic areas, and food trucks. Group outings from recreation centers, day camps, and assisted living communities are encouraged.
