BBeginning this Sunday, the SoundNOW Contemporary Music Festival returns to Atlanta to showcase the city’s vibrant new music scene, presenting 12 local contemporary music ensembles in seven concerts at three venues in one week, March 21 through April 1.
Four of the Festival’s seven concerts will take place downtown in the 400-seat Kopleff Recital Hall at Georgia State University, two at the First Existentialist Church in Candler Park, and one “house concert” at a private home in southwest Atlanta.
The inaugural SoundNow Festival launched in April 2016 and has been held annually each spring, except for two intervening years when the COVID-19 pandemic forced a shut down (2020 and 2021).
Now in its sixth iteration, SoundNOW hosts nine returning musical ensembles in 2023 and introduces three new groups to its lineup: the Scibelli/Lombardi Duo, the Subaerial Collective (from nearby Athens, Georgia), and Ensemble VIM.
Atlanta is one of the southeast’s most important centers of contemporary classical music. SoundNOW promises a week of wildly eclectic musical styles and chamber experiences, spotlighting many gifted local artists and composers creating diverse musical expressions and aesthetics.
