ATLANTA, Georgia— The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2025-26 Delta Classical Concert season, marking its 81st year and Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann’s fourth season with the ensemble. She will conduct 10 of the concerts.
Executive Director Jennifer Barlament described the season as one that “exemplifies what art can do for our community—bringing people together to have transformative experiences that move the heart and challenge the mind.”
Stutzmann will lead 10 on the concerts, including performances of major choral works, such as Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G major and Bach’s Mass in B minor, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Her first appearance on the podium in the new season will be October 3-5 with Richard Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben and Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto, featuring soloist Alisa Weilerstein. Stutzmann will also conduct performances of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 6 in March and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, Resurrection, in June.
For the season’s first concert, Pianist Lang Lang returns to Atlanta on September 19 to perform Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto in a special one-night program led by conductor Gemma New.
Music Director Laureate Robert Spano will return for two weeks in the spring, leading performances of Bernstein’s first and second symphonies. Other notable guest conductors include Nicholas Collon, Kevin John Edusei, Philippe Jordan, and Giancarlo Guerrero, each making their Atlanta Symphony Orchestra debut.
Guest artists throughout the season include pianists Pavel Kolesnikov, Francesco Piemontesi, Leif Ove Andsnes, and Hélène Grimaud, as well as violinist Daniel Lozakovich.
The orchestra will commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary with a series of concerts featuring works by American composers, including Leonard Bernstein, Samuel Barber, and Aaron Copland, as well as pieces by Duke Ellington and Artie Shaw. The season includes premieres of works by Valerie Coleman, Reena Esmail, Philip Glass, and Angélica Negrón, among others.
One highlight of the series will be Leonard Slatkin conducting the American premiere of his own work, Schubertiade: An Orchestral Fantasy, alongside Barber’s Violin Concerto, performed by Randall Goosby, and Copland’s Third Symphony. Another program, led by conductor Teddy Abrams, will feature Coleman’s Renaissance: Concerto for Orchestra and clarinet concertos by Shaw and Copland, performed by Martin Fröst.
A special recital by pianist Alexandre Kantorow, who performed at the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, is scheduled for April 19. Additionally, ASO Concertmaster David Coucheron will lead a performance of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons on Jan. 4 and 6.
Subscriptions for the 2025-26 season went on sale March 26. More details are available at aso.org. ■
